ABOUT
I’m drawn to the drama of the human story and the challenge of creating an image that conveys the beautiful complexity of it. I see the faces and figures in my work as archetypal heroes and heroines engaged in the common troubles and triumphs of our human experience. Whether I’m using a self portrait, a model I’ve photographed, or a found image, the subject is engaged in a psychological or spiritual question at a crossroad in their journey. Their backgrounds help color the context of the story, ranging from enchantment to danger.
Interweaving photography, painting and collage, “Mixed Media” describes both literally and metaphorically my approach to the creative process. I love engaging in the unexpected fusion that comes from mixing incongruent materials, ideas and methodologies to create fresh connections between the physical and metaphysical, and the viewer and myself. I aspire to create images that encourage the recognition of ourselves as the heroic protagonists of our own life story.
